Material Health
Health Product Declaration
The Health Product Declaration (HPD) enables manufacturers to present building product ingredients in a format that is consistent, transparent and in a common language consumers can understand. Completed HPDs include an inventory of ingredients that are scanned against a number of authoritative hazards lists to identify Benchmark 1 chemicals (chemicals of high concern).
Environmental Product Declaration
Reports that communicate the environmental impacts of a product across all phases of its lifecycle – from raw material extraction, manufacturing, and distribution, to product use and end of life. Shaw has third-party verified EPDs for the vast majority of our commercial and residential carpets./p>
Declare
Shaw Contract products constructed with EcoWorx Carpet Tile and EcoSolution Q face fiber are registered through the Declare program and classified as “Red List Compliant.”
Declare is an ingredients label for building products that supports the Living Building Challenge, a building certification program developed by the International Living Future Institute. Living Building Challenge requires that manufacturers disclose the ingredients in their products to ensure that they are free of Red List chemicals and materials.
The Red List represents the materials, chemicals, and elements known to pose serious risks to human health and the greater ecosystem. While any material can be listed in the Declare database, a Living Building Project cannot contain any of the following materials or compounds:
- Alkylphenols
- Asbestos
- Bisphenol A (BPA)
- Cadmium
- Chlorinated Polyethylene and Chlorosulfonated Polyethlene
- Chlorobenzenes
- Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs)
